Supervised Nursing Programme

The Supervised Nursing Programme or usually know as Adaptation course is being conducted at Beacon House in conjunction with Thames Valley University since 2001. This course is being conducted in accordance to NMC for Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors guidelines.

Structure of the Course

The course is based on clinical supervision of students who are registered nurses within their country of origin. The course aims to prepare the students for registration with the NMC on part 1 of the register. The course is to enable students although qualified to gain knowledge about nursing in the United Kingdom and to update their clinical expertise. This is done via a series of study periods and learning exercises.

Throughout the course students will maintain a portfolio of learning experiences. This will be a precursor to the professional Portfolio required by the NMC. The NMC require registered nurses to show evidence of their continued professional development as part of the reregistering process.

Each student will have a clinical mentor, who will work with and guide him or her through the duration of the their supervised practice. The mentor will discuss the assessments with the students and prepare them to undertake the assessment when they feel prepared. The mentor will guide them through the formative development process.
